I think she's a very talented voice actress, one of only a few who can display a very wide variety of tones and ranges in her voices and characters. I know that even without Haruhi Suzumiya's role she would probably still be successful in the anime business, though maybe not as popular as she is now. Still, that doesn't make her a good singer. Her inconsistent pitch and fake falsettos make my ears bleed. I liked the original God Knows... because the studio intended for it to sound like a high school band. Now when you have amateur vocals backed by a world-renowned orchestra, you notice the stark difference of their leagues. She's a decent pop music singer, backed by the fantastic production of the overall Haruhi franchise, but the Gensou project really highlights her musical shortcomings. But the instrumentals are really nice. Oh yeah, the Haruhi Suzumiya Gensou thing can be listened to on Youtube, just FYI.
