It’s been awhile since I posted about something related to anime so lets get going with this series that has just come to a close with it’s 2nd series. Now while there isn’t much difference between the two series i’m only going to be commenting on the 2nd, Rosario + Vampire Capu2. I suppose for those who don’t know this series I should begin with the plot, not that the anime follows or really has one.
Tsukune Aono is a painfully average high school freshman who is unable to get into any private school, due to his disappointing test scores. The only school he is finally accepted into turns out to be a secret school for supernatural monsters (youkai), who are disguised as humans. The first student he meets is the beautiful Moka Akashiya, who becomes his friend for an unusual reason; she is a vampire, and is attracted to the sweet taste of his human blood. Tsukune soon discovers that when he removes the “rosario” around Moka’s neck, she transforms into a super-vampire, stronger and more powerful than almost any other creature at the school. However, in this state, she has an entirely different personality, often cold and merciless.
Thanks again Wiki! So yes that is the general gist of the show. Tsukune is going to a school for monsters, when he himself is a human with no abilities at all. Along the way he befriends or rather I should say leads on 3 other ladies who, by law of harem animes, all want him and yet he doesn’t know what to do. I’m just going to rattle off a few points here as to why this show shits me.
1.) Male lead is, as you guessed it, totaly and utterly moronic. He is a fine example of stupid male leads that need to just go and die somewhere in a corner. There is nothing about this guy that is likable to me and even his voice is annoying. The ongoing gag between him and Moka is for them to just stare at each other and say their names like such,
Moka…. Tsukune… Moka…. Tsukune… Moka…. Tsukune…
Oh yeah thats a laugh riot alright. Please stop. My sides cant take anymore ¬_¬
2.) Moka is for the most part the typical female lead with not much special about her. She seems like an attempt to be a cheap Nagisa clone with her niceness and ways of being kind to people. The only times she is passable as a lead is when she her rosario is taken off and her personality switches into the “real” Moka who is quite cold.
3.) The remaining female cast of Kurumu, Mizore and Yukari are generaly reduced to stupid sterotyped characters that never seem to break out of their innitial episodic introduction personalities. Kurumu is always rubbing her boobs on Tsukune, Yukari, despite being the token loli character, is annoying as hell as she tries to stop everyone getting close to Tsukune, and Mizore, who stalks Tsukune whereever he goes. Out of the 4 girls, the most enjoyable character to watch I found was Mizore as she was the most random
4.) Panty shots. To call this a Panty shot anime would be an understatement. This is a service anime and it’s not ashamed to let you know it. There are dozens of shots each episode (usualy censored by a bat) with every type of underwear avaliable with the exception of perhaps a thong, though I don’t remember every episode well enough so there could be one. If you don’t like this, don’t pick this series up because it will ruin it for you.
5.) Perhaps the biggest issue I have with this show is its total lack of a plot. Season 1 sets up the characters for the first season so i’m forgiving the lack of a major plot because there is only so much you can do in 1 short season when you’re introducing 5 characters + sub characters + evil guys. They do manage to squeeze some plot in during the last 2 episodes but end up changing the storyline to the manga which really ruins it. Capu2 has no plot up until the last 2 episodes. 11 episodes of filler. That is just horse shit. No other anime would get away with having 11 of 13 episodes being totaly and utterly unrelated and interchangable to the story in anyway. Actually from what people have said, season 2 really doesn’t have any main story plot but I guess the last 2 episodes are as good as it will get
With that all said though I still do like the series and just wish Gonzo would wake the hell up and stick to the source material more. It seems when they try to, they can’t resist the urge to just change it. As if they think it will be better than what the original creator had in mind. Guys… stop it. I’m super cerial. Make your show have more than 5 minutes of plot, lessen the service and for god sakes stop that annoying as hell, Tsukune… Moka… Tsukune…. Moka, moment. That got old the 2nd time I saw it.
