Soul Eater in Yen Plus

Yen Press revealed several covers of it’s monthly manga magazine Yen+ earlier this month. First issue today at most major bookstores. Now you can own the Soul Eater manga, even though they won’t release individual volumes of it till next year.

Upcoming Soul Eater avatar contest is going to take place within the next week. Look out for more information on how to enter on the forum.

  1. I am a gigantic Soul Eater fan and practically fainted upon seeing the Soul Eater cover preview on their website weeks ago. And I went out today, the day of it’s release, just to get it and have the first english translation…
I like it, but the translating is… well shitty american censor haha
I mean, not completely, but the little things… the teeny tiny things that make it just a bit better got ripped away.
For example, instead of calling Maka flat chested, they just call her shortie. Taking away the joke of when Death Scythe says, “You saying my daughter isnt sexy? Just take a grab!”
Ahhh but still~ Im so proud to see Soul Eater hit America, it really does deserve it. But I pray for it to not get butchered like other series i’ve sinced loved. (Though, do you notice it’s climb towards internet fame? haha if it turns into another KHR i may cry tears of painful joy lol!)

Moreover, the art for most of the magazine is pretty good, and Nabari No Ou still kicks ass (Im buying it only for SE and Nabari haha).
BUT. There is one title and one section that PISSED ME OFF. HORRIBLE.
There is a series by this half-ass, worthless, embarrassment to drawing artist; whom i believe does not deserve a spot in Yen Plus. Her series is called Nightschool and the art in it makes me want to puke. How could she be in the same magazine as Soul Eater?? Its such a shame… It makes it seem like any artist living in America can only make crappy art, which is enormously untrue. Hell, any of the teenage artist I know can do better than her. Don’t you hate that? When a crap artist gets bring for no damn reason… man.. soooo many better artist deserve the successes she’s managed to scheme into her hands.
The second part that made me mad was the section where they gave you a small Bio on the Yen+ staff.. I wonder who they hired to draw picture of them that resembled the scribbles of a 12 year old…

I wish that this magazine was made of solid gold with stuff that wasnt ment to attract weaboos, but hey… It has Soul Eater. And that makes me pretty damn happy :) My brother said in the car, “Ive bought you a guitar, laptop, ipod, and other shit. But this one little manga shit made you hella happy and screamish. Wtf.”

Ah I would love to hear your review on it, if you’ve bought it!!!!
Im sorry if it seems like im spilling out a huge rant hahah!!

  2. Nightschool is indeed, not very pleasant to look at, but perhaps that’s a common style from Russian comic makers. Soul Eater grew much hype right after the anime was announced. The anime may likely be licensed too.
